Hacked websites could be using your computer to mine cryptocurrency
According to a recent report from AdGuard, more than 200 of the top 100,000 sites on the web were hosting suspicious code. That may not seem like a big deal, but even sites near the bottom of that list draw a huge amount of traffic. The most popular one on AdGuard's list regularly pulls in around 60 million visits every month.
In total, AdGuard discovered cryptocurrency mining code on 220 sites over a three-week period. During that time around 500 million users unknowingly ran that code on their computers.

Bitcoin mining on track to consume all of the world’s energy by 2020
More than half a billion people may be inadvertently mining cryptocurrencies from their computers, smartphones and other devices, according to research conducted earlier this year by ad blocking firm AdGuard.
“How much money have these websites made? We estimate their joint profit at over $43,000,” the AdGuard researchers said in an October blogpost that detailed their discovery. At the time, one bitcoin was worth around $5,000.

“We came across several very popular websites that secretly use the resources of users’ devices for cryptocurrency mining,” said Andrey Meshkov, co-founder of Adguard. “According to SimilarWeb, these four sites register 992m visits monthly.”

Although the developers aren't saying how much money they've made from their idea, online ad-blocking service AdGuard also found the Coinhive miner on over 30,000 sites and estimates the code generates $150,000 in Monero every month. For Coinhive, which takes a 30 percent cut, that amounts to $540,000 per year.

Hacked websites could be using your computer to mine cryptocurrency
According to a recent report from AdGuard, more than 200 of the top 100,000 sites on the web were hosting suspicious code. That may not seem like a big deal, but even sites near the bottom of that list draw a huge amount of traffic. The most popular one on AdGuard's list regularly pulls in around 60 million visits every month.

More than half a billion people may be inadvertently mining cryptocurrencies from their computers, smartphones and other devices, according to research conducted earlier this year by ad blocking firm AdGuard.
“How much money have these websites made? We estimate their joint profit at over $43,000,” the AdGuard researchers said in an October blogpost that detailed their discovery. At the time, one bitcoin was worth around $5,000.

メールセキュリティとは、メールアカウント、通信、データを不正アクセス、攻撃、その他の脅威から保護するために実施される対策や戦略を指します。

個人的な目的でも仕事上の目的でも、電子メールは主要なコミュニケーションツールとして普及しており、そのセキュリティを確保することは、機密情報を保護し、プライバシーを維持する上で非常に重要になっています。

メール攻撃の種類

このセクションでは、様々なタイプの電子メール攻撃（スプーフィング、スピアフィッシング、ホエーリング、ファーミング、電子メール返信チェーン攻撃などのフィッシング技術）について説明します。
また、マルウェア攻撃、ビジネスメール詐欺(BEC)、メール爆弾攻撃とその識別方法についても説明します。

  1. メールフィッシング攻撃 メールフィッシング攻撃は、電子メールベースのサイバー攻撃の最も一般的な形態です。この攻撃では、犯人は合法的な企業や組織の人間のふりをする。主な目的は、機密性の高い個人情報（ユーザー名やパスワードなど）や個人情報、財務データを盗むことです。組織を標的にした一般的な電子メール・フィッシング攻撃には、スプーフィング、クローン・フィッシング、スピア・フィッシング、ホエーリング、ファーミング、電子メール返信チェーン攻撃などがある。

    • なりすましメール（スプーフィング） では、攻撃者は、銀行や同僚など、正当な送信元からのものであるかのように電子メール・アドレスを偽造します。これは、電子メール・ヘッダの「From」(差出人)フィールドを操作して、偽の送信者アドレスを作成することで行うことができる。目的は、パスワードやクレジットカード番号などの個人情報や金融情報を盗むことである。

    • スピアフィッシング（spear fishing）　なりすましと同様に、スピアフィッシングは特定の個人や組織を標的にする。Eメールには、合法的に見せかけるための個人情報が含まれていることが多い。通常のフィッシングとは異なり、スピアフィッシングはより標的を絞り、受信者の名前、役職、その他の個人情報を使って信用できるように見せかける。

    • ホエーリング（Whaling）　企業秘密や財務データなどの機密情報を引き出すために、組織内の有名人を標的にした巧妙な攻撃です。あまり一般的ではありませんが、成功すると非常に大きな損害が生じます。

    • メール返信チェーン攻撃（email reply-chain attacks）　これらの攻撃は、なりすましたReply-Toヘッダを使用して、受信者を騙して悪意のある電子メールに返信させます。返信は元の送信者ではなく攻撃者に送られ、攻撃者は機密情報を収集することができます。これらの攻撃は、多くの場合、実際のアカウントアドレスを使用し、メッセージの内容をわずかに変更するだけであるため、検出が困難です。

    • なかでもスケアウェア（scareware） は、恐怖と緊急性を利用して、リンクをクリックさせたり、添付ファイルを開かせたりし、コンピュータが感染していると思わせたり、個人情報が危険にさらされていると思わせたりします。スケアウェアの兆候には、貧弱な文法、不一致のフォント、偽のロゴなどがあります。

  1. ビジネスメール詐欺（BEC）　BECは、ハッカーが会社の高位幹部になりすまし、従業員を騙して不正な口座に送金させる危険なタイプのメール攻撃です。BEC攻撃は一般的になりつつあり、報告されないこともよくあります。BEC攻撃から身を守るには、会社の重役から金銭や機密情報を要求されたら、疑ってかかることです。

  2. Eメール爆弾攻撃、またはDoS（サービス拒否）Eメール攻撃は、大量のメールでメールサーバーを圧倒し、正当なEメールの配信を妨げます。このような攻撃は、手動で行われることもあれば、大規模なキャンペーンの一環として行われることもあり、業務への抗議や妨害に使われることが多い。強力なスパムフィルターと最新のアンチウイルスソフトは、メール爆弾に対する最善の防御策です。

  3. メールハッキングは、個人情報を盗んだり、詐欺を働いたり、悪意のあるコンテンツを配信したりするために、メールアカウントに不正にアクセスすることです。ハッカーは、フィッシングやブルートフォース攻撃など、様々なテクニックを使ってメールアカウントを侵害します。

    • ブルートフォース攻撃は、自動化されたツールを使用して、正しいパスワードが見つかるまで、体系的にパスワードを推測する方法です。攻撃者は、よく使われるパスワードのリストを使ったり、成功するパスワードが見つかるまで組み合わせを生成したりする。

    • パスワードの再利用とクレデンシャル・スタッフィング(Credential Stuffing)　クレデンシャル・スタッフィングとは、データ侵害によって盗まれたユーザー名とパスワードのペアを使用して、他のサービスのアカウントにアクセスすることです。この方法は、ユーザが複数のサイトで同じ認証情報を再利用することに依存する。

    • キーロガーは、デバイス上で行われたキー入力を記録する悪意のあるプログラムです。これらは、ユーザが入力したユーザ名、パスワード、その他の機密情報をキャプチャすることができます。

    • Man-in-the-Middle (MitM) 攻撃は、ユーザーとメールサーバー間の通信を傍受し、ハッカーにメッセージの読み取りや変更、機密情報の取得を可能にします。

メールセキュリティを向上させる５つの対策

ここでは、認証とアクセス制御、暗号化、スパム・フィッシング対策、マルウェア対策、アカウント監視、データ損失防止（DLP）を中心に、メールセキュリティを向上させるための主な対策について説明します。

  1. 認証とアクセス・コントロール

    • 強力なパスワード:　大文字、小文字、数字、特殊文字を組み合わせた複雑なパスワードを使用する。名前や生年月日など、推測されやすい情報の使用は避ける。

    • 二要素認証(2FA): 二要素認証(2FA)を導入することで、パスワードに加えて、二次認証(二次メールやモバイルアプリに送信されるコードなど)を要求することで、セキュリティのレイヤーを追加します。
