AdGuard v4.6.4 for Android: The power of DNS is back
Setting up DNS can be beneficial, offering faster load times and improved security. However, when something goes wrong with it, the Internet connection will vanish into thin air.
That’s exactly what happened in the previous version of AdGuard for Android. An annoying and random bug caused DNS to crash when users switched from mobile data to Wi-Fi. While not everyone was affected by this bug, it was certainly frustrating for those who were. We went to work on it and are happy to say that it has been fixed in our latest release, version 4.6.4.
But even if you didn’t experience this particular bug, you may still want to check out the improvements and fixes we’ve made.
Post-quantum cryptography
When it comes to HTTPS filtering, it’s crucial that AdGuard encrypts your traffic just as securely as the app it’s filtering. That’s why we always stay up to date and keep pace with modern apps and browsers.
This time, we’ve added support for post-quantum cryptography. If the filtered app or browser uses the latest encryption methods, AdGuard will do the same, ensuring that even a quantum computer won’t be able to decrypt your traffic.
Battery drain on nightly and beta
Another irritating bug we discovered during beta testing: incorrect statistics calculations were leading to excessive battery drain. The system code was unable to calculate the date necessary for accurate statistics below a certain value. Thankfully, we’ve managed to work around this odd behavior in the system code, and now the stats are calculated correctly. We’ve also optimized how we handle statistics, making them load faster and use less RAM while the app is running.
This issue seemed to affect users on specific versions of Android. If you were using the nightly or beta version of AdGuard and ran into this problem, we recommend updating to the stable release.

The latest version of CoreLibs includes bug fixes and improvements. Many of them might be especially interesting to filter maintainers — check out our GitHub repo for the full changelog.
Update and leave feedback
The DNS bug and the battery drain bug were really annoying, so if you were affected, update your AdGuard app in the first place. But even if you didn’t experience these bugs, it’s still a good idea to update — each new release strives for the best.
