Our life can't be imagined without Internet. Global network provides us with various opportunities and helps to study, work, spend leisure time and search for any kind of information. We can learn new things, keep in touch with our friends and relatives, shop online. But it often happens that as we get something that makes our life easier, sooner or later we are forced to face a counter balancing weight. Today Internet hides a significant number of threats.
A lot of users can't even imagine that someone can appropriate their information and use it illegally. For example, a lot of personal information can be stolen, if an email or a social network account was hacked. Very often this is made for the following blackmailing, in order to sell private information or to use various paid services.
Types of the online threats
Ones of the most frequent online threats are computer viruses. In spite of the fact that viruses appeared long before the Internet became popular, their popularity growth is definitely accelerated by the global network. Active development of the net opened new horizons for the viruses authors. And the latter found it to their tastes:
Internet commercialization made it possible to profit from each user whose computer becomes infected with viruses;
Overspread programs can also be vulnerable (for example Internet Explorer, Adobe Acrobat, etc. – they do have weak spots in security), and taking into account popularity of the Internet itself there are a lot of virus writers who attack a wide number of users – millions of computers, - in a short time;
Weak computer competence level of a mass user has significantly lowered entering margin to the cyber-criminal market.
Significant part of all today's viruses are not classic viruses. These are malware programs that generally use social engineering methods. They are constantly changing so antiviruses can’t always track them. There are even special constructors that help to create a virus with a particular malicious functionality.
As of today, most of the computer viruses spread via Internet. Various threats get into our computers from the infected websites or through fraud ads. Sometimes we ourselves let the viruses in by launching doubtful sites from the unknown developers or updating flash players or browsers (which, in fact, is very often a viral trick). Unfortunately, a lot of users still don’t know that most of the applications can update automatically and don’t request any additional files downloading.
Moreover, viruses can easily infect the system because users usually are too lazy to go through certain settings on their computers or to install a software that will protect them from any undesirable invasions. Protection against malware sites can work on a constant basis, but users themselves do absolutely nothing for their protection. Active Windows users should know that in order to avoid installation of third parties’ programs on their computers it’s better to avoid setting Administrator’s user rights.
Today, viruses fulfil lots of «supplementary tasks» that are aimed to profit their developers. The most widespread activities of the viruses:
Stealing credit cards and online wallets information;
Bot-net activity, spamming, DDOS attacks on popular sites;
Stealing social network accounts. Usually, stolen accounts are used for spam or for fraud activity (you may remember when unknown people asked to lend them money or to refill their mobile accounts);
Ads substitution or its demonstration on the sites visited by users (adware);
Unauthorized installation of suspicious home pages;
Blackmailing (for example, coding files on a disk, computer or internet blocking with demands to pay money in order to get back to normal state).
What are the symptoms of a computer being infected?
Very often it can be hard to understand that a virus is on a computer. A malware program can spam, participate in DDOS attacks and send personal information behind your back.
Though there are several factors that can be called “symptoms” of a computer virus:
The computer restarts and hangs;
Undesired ads appear in unusual places;
The Internet pages you didn't expect to see open on their own;
Browser shows tools you didn’t install;
Even when no programs are open the computer vent works loudly as during active work;
A lot of intrusive offers to buy, pay or send SMS appear on the sites where it is least expected (for example vk.com, yandex.ru, etc.)
Instead of the home page you’ve chosen you see some unknown third party site.
That is why it is a good practice to check if there are any viruses on your computer with the help of free utilities that are provided by popular antivirus developers. This will make you sure that your computer is free from any malicious programs.
Let’s talk about Nftds, Babylon, Webalta, Delta Toolbar. A number of users already know these namings. If any of these programs were downloaded or opened on your computer you do know what adware is.
Adware is a generic term for the programs that have no useful features. They are made to embed intrusive ads. These programs “airtime” ads on your computer. They are of no actual harm, but the Internet work becomes much less comfortable. Your homepages and search engines settings can be reset and your browser can start opening undesirable sites with lots of unpleasant ads.
The most popular type of adware is Webalta application. A lot of users have already met it and they agree that it becomes impossible to work in the net. They start to search for articles about «How to remove webalta» and very often realize that they don't have enough skills to get rid of adware themselves. They have nothing else to do but to pay specialists who can help them.
There are programs that can remove adware. But the adware can “see” sites with such programs, so they won't let the “remedy” download. It’s much easier to block any possibility of downloading any adware than try to figure out how to remove adware.
How to protect yourself?
Indeed, there is a lot of danger on the Internet. Not only your computer, but also your personal information can be at risk. A computer can be infected without any user’s participation (for example, due to a browser security vulnerability), but more often the user himself lets a harmful code into his computer. What to do to protect yourself and your computer?
Install the latter version of your browser and other programs;
Don’t launch doubtful software, especially cracks, keygens, etc. Ideally you should check the developer before downloading;
Download and start programs only from the official sites, try to avoid software archives;
Don’t install unverified browser tools;
Install an antivirus;
It's better to use an adblocker.

makes internet tolerable
Im in loved with this app. Very reliable.❤️
AdGuard has protected me well!!
This blocks all of the ads and redirect ads that others could not. By redirect ads I mean when you are viewing something and your browser makes you open a page full of viruses and its nearly impossible to close the page due to all the pop ups. This1
if you ever need an ad blocker, you won't find a better than this one
It’s only 5 star
Excellent, useful app. Doesn't take a lot space. Keep it up.
It works pretty well on websites but recently there has been inappropriate pop-up ads that were prevented before with this app.
Excellent content blocker. 😎👍🏾
The best ad blocker available for the Samsung Brower app, the default filters work great but I also suggest you add the "Mobile Annoyances" filter to the list. With these 5 filters enabled I've found my browsing experience to be a pleasant affair. A1
