AdGuard v2.14 for Mac: enhanced ECH support and improved DNS-over-HTTPS requests filtering
Sometimes, checking out what’s new in an app is as easy as opening it up. But not with the latest superstar — the release of AdGuard v2.14 for Mac. This time, the real magic has happened under the hood in the CoreLibs filtering engine. Ready to dive in and explore the improvements in this version? Let's get to it!
Enhanced Encrypted ClientHello support
First off, we’ve fine-tuned the Encrypted ClientHello support. Even though it’s been a year since implementation, we are still striving to perfect this feature, which remains in the experimental phase. This time, our team has pinpointed a few issues that were preventing ECH from being smoothly activated by default. With this release, we’ve addressed them and set the stage for improved performance.
We wrote about what ECH is and why we implemented its support in AdGuard for Mac earlier. If you want to refresh your knowledge, follow this link.
Improved DNS-over-HTTPS requests filtering
The updated CoreLibs now provide the ability to filter DNS-over-HTTPS (DoH) requests on the fly. This means that, by default, AdGuard will not redirect DoH queries to the DNS server specified in its settings. Instead, queries will be sent to the server chosen in the browser.
The old behavior may be restored by turning off
network.dns.filter.secure.request.transparently.enabled
in the advanced settings.
This update also includes other minor changes, all detailed in the full changelog available on our website.
